Who We Are

The Common Ground Council consists of youth, religious educators, ministers, PCD staff, and
parents, all dedicated to modeling together how we might do UU Youth ministry in the future.
We have been asking each other big questions, sharing feelings and feedback from the groups
we represent (LREDA, YRUUP, PCD, PWR, UUMA, etc), and finding paths towards healing
together. In particular, we have been putting our energies into three areas:

  • Group care and engagement:
    • This has looked like smaller discussions and gatherings dedicated to hearing harm done as part of this conflict, and finding ways forward; this has also meant bringing along the groups we are each a part of so that the process is inclusive and holistic.
  • Widening the circle of engaged folks:
    • We know that many people have not been engaged in not only this process, but also youth ministry in general, and we are eager to bring them in. This includes engaging folx who are geographically diverse.
  • CGC-sponsored Youth Events:
    • We strive to create events that practice together a new model. We envision an event that will expand the trust-building being started by the Common Ground Council.  A variety of youth, younger adults, and adults, will be invited to envision next steps together AND build relationships with one another.

Most importantly, the Common Ground Council has been working to build a trusting, loving,
covenantal relationship with one another that allows for difficult, honest conversations and
makes space for all of us to move forward together.
